Keene, a snowboarding pioneer since 1983, lived and worked for seven summers in Yosemite from 1986-1992. While there he made first ascents of several new rock climbs and mixed (rock, ice, snow) climbs, as well as making first snowboard descents of many backcountry peaks and extreme lines in the Yosemite High Country. In 1988 he was the leader of a team that set a world snowboarding altitude record by climbing and then riding down from over 22,000 feet on Mt Aconcagua in Argentina, at the time the highest snowboarding ever done on the planet.
