Prior to this, Wheelan worked as a stand-up comedian in Los Angeles. He starting out performing stand-up comedy in his late teens in Iowa, before eventually moving to Los Angeles to study improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and work as a contributing writer at CollegeHumor.
