Bobby Petrino is the head football coach for the Louisville Cardinals. Petrino graduated from Carroll College and began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant in the 1983 season. The next year, he moved to Weber State University, coaching quarterbacks. Petrino later returned to his alma mater in 1985 as offensive coordinator.
Petrino then became an assistant in the Division I ranks as wide receivers and tight ends coach at Weber State in 1987 and 1988. In 1989, he went to University of Idaho, as quarterbacks coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator. In 1992, he became quarterbacks coach at Arizona State.
In 1994, he moved to Nevada, serving both as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In 1995, he began a three-year stint as offensive coordinator at Utah State. Petrino arrived at the Univeristy of Louisville in 1998 as offensive coordinator. He then moved to the NFL, spending three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2002, he was offensive coordinator at Auburn. He would return to Louisville in 2003 as head coach.
On July 13, 2006, Petrino signed a 10 year - 25.5 million dollar contract extention with the University of Louisville.
In January of 2007, Petrino was named the Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
