Bill Parcells was an American football head coach for the Dallas Cowboys and is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.
Parcells was named head coach of the Giants in 1982 after a few assistant coaching jobs in the NFL. When Parcells took over the New York Giants, they were a team that had posted just one winning season in the previous ten years. In 1986, he proceeded to take the Giants to the first of two Super Bowls, the second followed in 1990, after which Parcells retired due to health reasons.
After a two-year hiatus, Parcells returned to the NFL in 1993 as the head coach for the New England Patriots. In 1996, he guided the Patriots to Super Bowl XXXI but lost to the Green Bay Packers. Parcells soon left New England after a dispute with the owner.
Parcells went on to coach the Jets for two years. In 1999, Bill Parcells retired from football again, vowing that he would not coach again. However, following three straight losing seasons, Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones lured Bill Parcells out of retirement and made him the head coach in 2003, where he coached until 2007, when he announced once again that he was retiring.
