Since then, Al Michaels has continued to shine among the elite in today's broadcast industry. He is well known for his coverage of the San Francisco Earthquake in 1989. He was going on the air at Candlestick Park in San Francisco to announce the World Series game between the A's and Giants when the quake struck.
For his outstanding work, he became only the second sports announcer ever to receive a News Emmy Award. Currently, Michaels is the #1 play-by-play announcer for the tremendously successful "Monday Night Football." Throughout Michaels' career, he has achieved many accolades in sports, including participation in three Winter Olympics, Seven World Series, Six All Star Games, One Stanley Cup, Numerous NCAA Basketball and Football games, San Francisco Giants Baseball and UCLA Basketball. Michaels has also earned many awards in broadcast journalism, including 1991 Sportscaster of the Year by the Washington Journalism Review and 1996 Sportscaster of the Year by the American Sportscasters Association.
Over his career, Michaels has received three Sports Emmy Awards and three National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Awards.
