Earlier this month, humanitarian Samantha Nutt got to speak out against global violence. She encouraged others to similarly voice their minds on the topic when she was the keynote speaker at the Borah Symposium on April 6th.
The Borah Symposium was held April 4-6 at the Bruce M. Pittman center on the campus of the University of Idaho. It is an annual event put on by the school's Borah Foundation.
The theme of the conference was "Waging Peace". Nutt mentioned the recent Brussels terror attacks as a sign that the world is at a turning point for peace.
Nutt has been deeply impacted by 16 years in the field as a war zone healthcare worker. Her 2011 book, "Damned Nations: Greed, Guns, Armies, Aid", detailed some of those experiences as a physician and became a number one national bestseller in Canada.
In addition, Nutt is the founder of War Child North America, a charity that assists children caught in the middle of conflicts. While juggling those responsibilities, she also is on the staff at the Women's College Hospital in Toronto and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
The year her book was published, Nutt was named to the Order of Canada. The World Economic Forum has recognized her as a Young Global Leader as well.
