University of Michigan Picks Univeristy of Miami President Julio Frenk as Winter Commencement Speaker

One of the top academic leaders in America is headed to the University of Michigan as their winter commencement speaker. University of Miami president Julio Frenk will address the Class of 2016 in Ann Arbor on December 18th.
Graduation proceedings will be held at the Crisler Center at 2 p.m. In addition to speaking, Frenk will be one of four to receive an honorary degree at the ceremony.
It will be the seventh different university that he has received an honorary degree from. Frenk's experience should be tremendous to learn from.
Last year, Frenk became the sixth president at Miami. In addition to his work leading UM, he is also a professor in the School of Medicine and School of Business Administration.
Before arriving in Coral Gables, Frenk had a joint appointment from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government as dean of the T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Professor of Public Health and Development. He came to Cambridge after being Mexico's Minister of Health from 2000-2006.
Frenk was the instrumental force behind establishing a universal health care system in his home country that accounted for 55 million previously uncovered people. He was the first director-general of the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico as well.
