Graduates of the University of Michigan-Flint this spring have the opportunity to hear from one of the most accomplished NASA astronauts of all-time. Story Musgrave will serve as commencement speaker for a pair of ceremonies at the school.
The graduations take place May 1st at the Dort Federal Event Center. One ceremony begins at 11 a.m. while the other starts at 3 p.m.
Musgrave says he is going to tell students not to be fearful and to continue to add to their occupational abilities. Those are certain messages he followed during his career.
Musgrave was an astronaut with NASA for over 30 years. He flew on six different space missions and performed the first Shuttle spacewalk on Challenger in 1983.
Perhaps more importantly, Musgrave was the mission control communicator for 25 different missions. He officially retired from NASA in 1997.
While an astronaut, Musgrave showed some of his career versatility as a part-time trauma surgeon. Since leaving NASA, he has been a multimedia director, landscape architect, and motivational speaker.
