Popular television judge Glenda Hatchett is speaking at an event honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in her home state of Georgia. She will keynote the Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority annual MLK Day breakfast on January 13th.
The breakfast is being held at 8 a.m. at College Place United Methodist Church. As someone who grew up in Atlanta during the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, Hatchett got to see King's impact firsthand.
This 15th annual event will have a special twist. In addition to Hatchett's presentation, a high school and middle school student will be honored as "Tommorow's Leaders."
Hatchett starred in syndication on "Judge Hatchett" for eight seasons from 2000-08. She is currently back on TV hosting a similar show on The Cube in Houston, Texas.
Hatchett is also a successful lawyer and founding partner of The Hatchett Firm. She made her name as the senior attorney and public relations manager for Delta Air Lines in the 1980s.
At the time, Hatchett was their highest-ranking African-American female employee and Ebony Magazine named her one of the "100 Best and Brightest Black Woman in Corporate America." She left that post to serve as Chief Presiding Judge of Fulton County's Juvenile Court before taking her TV role.
