One of the leaders in promoting acceptance for the transgender community got the opportunity to speak at the American Library Association's annual conference last week. On June 27th, teen activist Jazz Jennings spoke at ALA 2016 from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
She was able to share her amazing story with those in attendance. The conference was held in Orlando, Florida from June 23-28.
Over 2000 events were held during the week, including hundreds of author appearances. There were also 700 companies at the exhibition associated with ALA 2016.
Jennings transitioned to being a girl at just five years old. Since then, she has talked about her situation through a successful YouTube channel and reality series.
Last month, Jennings published her memoir, "Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender)". She talks about the difficult road of growing up as a transgender child while also trying to educate people about her choice.
Time has twice named Jennings one of the Most Influential Teens. She has also been named to Huffington Post's list of 14 Most Fearless Teens.
