Recently, the University of Pennsylvania has been at the forefront of the transgender discussion.  They are continuing that trend by welcoming a special speaker to campus.

Transgender activist Janet Mock is the keynote speaker for the Penn Women's Week.  She will speak on April 2nd at 7 p.m. in Claudia Cohen Hall G17.

Events for Women's Week have been taking place all week and will culminate with Mock's presentation.  In February, Caitlyn Jenner came to campus to speak and sparked an intense discussion amongst students about LGBTQ issues.

Mock is a contributing editor for Marie Claire and originally came out in the magazine in 2011.  Her 2014 memoir, Redefining Realness, discussed her experiences and became a New York Times bestseller.

Currently, Mock is the host of "So POPular!", a weekly digital culture series for MSNBC.  She is also a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.

Mock started the social media campaign #GirlsLikeUs, which empowers trans women.  Last year, Time Magazine named her one of "the 30 most influential people on the Internet".
