The Piedmont Education Speaker Series was established to tackle topics that would help raise healthy children and young adults. Stanford educator Jo Boaler was an excellent choice as their most recent speaker with her expertise on what it takes for kids to succeed in mathematics.

Boaler delivered her presentation titled, "The Myth of the Math Brain," on February 27th at Havens Elementary School's Ellen Driscoll Auditorium. She shared why she embraces the theory of a growth mindset.

Individual tickets were available at the door for $15, with many people having already purchased series passes. Brentwood School leader Mike Riera will serve as the final Piedmont speaker on Tuesday.

Boaler serves as a professor of mathematics education at Stanford. She previously taught overseas in London at King’s College and other institutions.

Boaler is the author of the first MOOC on Mathematics teaching and learning. She is the author of several books, including her most recent work, “Mathematics Mindsets: Unleashing Students Potential Through Creative Math, Inspiring Messages and Innovative Teaching. B
