Cory Doctorow makes his living as a science fiction novelist but he is also a technology activist.  On May 20th, he will be the keynote speaker at the Eighth Annual Information Security Summit.

The summit is being held May 19-20 at the Universal Hilton in Los Angeles.  It is being put on by the Los Angeles Chapter of Information Systems Security Information.

This event encourages collaboration among business executives, IT personnel, and information security practitioners.  Interested parties can register for the summit at a discounted rate of $185 until April 19th.

Doctorow is co-editor of the blog Boing Boing.  Some of the issues he argues for are the liberalizing of copyright laws and the use of Creative Commons.

Doctorow serves as a consultant to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a group that defends technology freedom.  He has written nine novels.

In addition to his fiction work, Doctorow has contributed to publications like The Guardian, Publishers Weekly, and Wired.  Later in the year, he will also keynote the Hackers on Planet Earth conference.
