As a public radio host, Celeste Headlee is used to talking. She is also invested in making sure Americans get back to talking with each other about some of our most complex issues.
That was the crux of her message last month when she spoke at the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce annual awards banquet. The event was held on February 20 at the Statesville Civic Center in North Carolina.
Headlee's presentation was titled, "Help Make America Talk Again." She said people need to go into a conversation not with the intent of changing an individuals mind, but just to listen and learn something.
Currently, Headlee hosts the program "On Second Thought" on Georgia Public Broadcasting. She previously hosted a national morning news show from Public Radio International and WNYC.
Headlee began her broadcasting career on public radio in Flagstaff, Arizona. She also spent time working in Detroit and as a Midwest Correspondent for NPR's "Day to Day."
Last year, Headlee published the book, "We Need to Talk: How to Have Conversations That Matter." Outside of her work on radio, she is a professional opera singer.
