Pulitzer Prize Finalist Adrian Matejka Discusses Poetry Collection in Chattanooga

One of the top poets in the world today will discuss his work in Chattanooga next week.  Adrian Matejka will speak as part of the South Bound Distinguished Lecture Series on February 10th at the Arts Building.

Matejka will talk about his poetry collection, "The Big Smoke", a series of writings based on the life of boxer Jack Johnson.  The reading will take place at 6 p.m., with a VIP before and a book signing immediately following the presentation.

General admission tickets start at $15 while VIP passes run $25.  The event and the entire series is being put on by the Southern Lit Alliance in recognition of Black History Month. 

Matejka is the Lilly Professor/Poet-in-Residence at Indiana University.  The Big Smoke was a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for poetry and the 2013 National Book Award. 

Matejka's first poetry collection, "The Devil's Garden", won the New York/New England Award from Alice James Books in 2002.  His second offering, "Mixology", was a finalist for a NAACP Image Award and won the 2008 National Poetry Series. 

Matejka has fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Lannan Foundation, and United States Artists.  He is currently working on several new projects.
