Public Health Expert Karen DeSalvo Speaks at University of Kansas

Public health expert Karen DeSalvo recently shared her expertise with a crowd of interested attendees at the University of Kansas. She spoke at the "Health for the 21st Century Summit."
The event took place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the University of Kansas Union's Kansas Room. In addition to giving a keynote, DeSalvo also participated in a panel discussion.
After those proceedings, individuals participated in an afternoon of breakout sessions. The summit was free and open to the public.
DeSalvo is currently on the faculty for The University of Texas' Dell Medical School. She the former acting United States assistant secretary of health.
DeSalvo has also served as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' national coordinator for health information technology. From 2011-14, She was the health commissioner for the City of New Orleans.
DeSalvo took her post after working at Tulane University's School of Medicine as a professor of medicine and vice dean of community affairs and health policy. She has a doctorate and master's from Tulane and a master's from the Harvard School of Public Health.
