The Flagstaff Festival of Science got a visit from one of the world's top polar explorers. Will Steger kicked off the event on September 23rd with his presentation.
The speaking engagement was held at 7 p.m. at Northern Arizona University's Ardrey Auditorium. The title of Steger's speech was "My Life as an Explorer".
Tickets were free but handed out at the door on a first-come, first served basis. The Flagstaff Festival of Science ran through October 2nd and featured over 100 free activities.
Some of the most notable polar expeditions in recorded history have been led by Steger. In 1986, he successfully charted the first confirmed dogsled trip without re-supply to the North Pole.
Two years later, Steger headed the longest unsupported dogsled expedition when he did a 1,600-mile south-north trek of Greenland. He also did the first dogsled traverse of Antartica.
Due to Steger's tremendous accomplishments, he became the first National Geographic Society Explorer-In-Residence. He is the author of four books and currently delivers over 100 presentations a year to top organizations.
