Poet Regie Gibson had a unique opportunity recently to speak about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He gave a sermon at the Unitarian Church of Marlborough and Hudson in Massachusetts.
The title of Gibson's sermon was "With This Faith: MLK and The Idea of Transcendence." He shares his interpretation of King's message.
Gibson also talked about the difference in believing in fate as opposed to faith. Following his presentation, there was a performance of "We Shall Overcome."
Gibson is a former National Poetry Slam Individual Champion and Chicago Tribune Artist of the Year for Excellence. He has been featured on NPR and HBO's Def Poetry Jam.
Gibson has served as a co-judge for the Chicago Sun-Times Poetry Competition. He has performed around the world.
Gibson received a Golden Pen Award for the poetry book, "Storms Beneath The Skin." He holds an MFA in Poetry from New England College.
