Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards Keynotes APHA Annual Meeting

The American Public Health Association is hosting their Annual Meeting and Expo.  One big name who spoke at the event is Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards. 

Richards was the Opening General Session keynote speaker on Sunday.  The overall conference is being held October 29-November 2 at the Colorado Convention Center and the Hyatt Regency Denver.  

The event attracts over 12,000 people from the U.S. and around the world.  This year's theme is, "Creating the Healthiest Nation: Ensuring the Right to Health."  

Richards is a national leader for women's health and reproductive rights issues.  She has been with Planned Parenthood since 2006.  

Some of the main things Richards has worked on in that time is expanding the organization's health care access advocacy program and making sure Planned Parenthood is a part of the coverage conversation.  Under her guidance, support for the organization has more than doubled. 

Before joining Planned Parenthood, Richards was House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi's deputy chief of staff.  Currently, she serves on the board of directors of the Ford Foundation.
