Pioneering executive Mary Alice Williams found a way to carve out a successful career in the competitive world of television news. That experience gave her a great life perspective to impart to the graduates at Penn State Abington.
Williams served as fall commencement speaker last week. She has often been asked to speak at colleges and is the recipient of 14 honorary doctorates.
Penn State Abington is located just north of Philadelphia and they offer 19 majors. They have an enrollment of 4,000 and half of the student population completes all four years of schooling at PSU Abington.
Williams is best known as an early executive and anchor for CNN. She was the New York Bureau Chief when the network was launched in 1980 and later became a vice president.
Williams later worked for NBC News as a co-anchor on Weekend Today and other programs. She won an Emmy Award as for her coverage of the Romanian Revolution on NBC Nightly News.
Williams is currently an anchor for NJTV News. She has also hosted several PBS specials and a weekly interview program for Hallmark Channel.
