On January 17th, the University of Oregon hosted their MLK Awards Luncheon. One of the country's current leading agents for change, Nina Turner, served as the keynote speaker.

The event was held at the Ford Alumni Center's Giustina Ballroom. There were over 200 people in attendance.

Turner shared thoughts on Dr. King's legacy. There were also three Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. awards handed out.

Turner is the founder and president of Our Revolution, a new organization focused on promoting a new generation of progressive leaders. She previously worked as an active surrogate Bernie Sanders as he sought the Democratic nomination for President.

Turner's political background began when she was elected to the Cleveland City Council in 2005. She served in the Ohio State Senate from 2008-14.

While in the Senate, Turner was involved in fighting for progressive causes. She holds a Master of Arts degree from Cleveland State University.
