It is always a unique experience to be able to go back to your college. Oscar Award-winning producer Jonas Rivera will get the pinnacle of that feeling when he serves as commencement speaker for his alma mater, San Francisco State University.
He will speak at SFSU's 115th commencement on May 27th. The ceremony is being held beginning at 5:30 p.m. at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.
There are expected to be around 35,000 people in attendance and 8,000 degrees will be conferred. Last year was the first year SFSU or any college held their graduation ceremonies at AT&T Park.
Rivera capitalized on being at the right place and the right time and having a tremendous talent for animation. He was Pixar's first production intern, working on "Toy Story" in 1994 while still studying at San Francisco State.
Rivera's role at Pixar would continue to grow, culminating with being a producer on "Up". The 2009 release won Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score.
Rivera also produced "Inside Out", which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature as well. For his tremendous work at Pixar, the Producers Guild of America has twice awarded him Producer of the Year in Animated Features.
