Ohio State Schedules Ice Cream Entrepreneur Jeni Britton Bauer as Summer Commencement Speaker

Jeni Britton Bauer is one of the top entrepreneurs in Columbus, Ohio and a graduate of Ohio State University.  It makes perfect sense then that the would be the school's commencement speaker this summer. 

Bauer will speak to the 1,500 summer graduates on August 7th.  Commencement will be held at 2 p.m. at the Jerome Schottenstein Center on campus. 

OSU President Michael V. Drake expressed in a statement the university's excitement about having one of their own speak.  Bauer is expected to preach innovation in her presentation while encouraging the attendees to dream big.  

Bauer began Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams with one storefront location in town in 2002.  The brand can now count 23 scoop shops across the country and over 1,100 stores that the ice cream. 

In addition, Bauer has written two cookbooks that chronicle some of her top ice cream creations.  Her book, "Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home" won a coveted James Beard Foundation Award in 2012.  

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream has been rated among the top ice cream shops in the nation by several publications.  When she is not working hard on her growing empire, Bauer serves on the boards of the Wexner Center for Arts and the Columbus College of Art and Design.
