Philanthropist Cookie Johnson made a special appearance on Sunday to talk about her life and sign copies of her book, "Believing in Magic." There were hundreds in attendance at her stop in Santa Clarita, California at Albert Einstein Academy.
Johnson's talk was in place of Valencia Christian Center's 11 a.m service. The conversation was moderated by Senior Pastor Marlon Saunders.
During the question and answer session, Johnson shared a message of optimism. She spoke about overcoming obstacles in her own life to hammer the point home.
While she is well-known as the wife of retired NBA superstar Magic Johnson, Johnson is much more than the spouse of a basketball player. She is also a successful businesswoman and philanthropist.
Johnson is Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Magic Johnson Foundation. She oversees the development of the foundation's goals while attending to the needs of those in underserved communities.
Johnson has also launched her own denim line, Cj by Cookie Johnson. The line services women of varying sizes and is sold by many major retailers.
Since her husband went public with his HIV diagnosis over 25 years ago, Johnson has been at the forefront of the fight to find a cure for the disease. She is also an honorary chairperson for the Children's Defense Fund.
