Wole Soyinka is a highly regarded playwright and poet. Later this month, he will be featured as the keynote speaker at the Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Education Summit.
The conference takes place at the University of Johannesburg from November 30th to December 2nd. It is the third annual event hosted by THE, a global authority on higher education.
The theme of the event is, "Reimagining the world-class university." There will be many education leaders from around the world that convene to learn from each other.
In 1986, Soyinka became the first African to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature. Throughout his career in the public eye, he has been a strong critic of various governments in Nigeria.
From 1975-1999, Soyinka served as a Professor of Comparative Literature at Obafemi Awolowo University. He first taught in the U.S. at Cornell University and Emory University.
Soyinka has also been a Professor of Creative Writing at UNLV. He has been a scholar-in-residence at both Loyola Marymount University and New York University's Institute of African American Affairs.
