Roland Martin is one of the most recognizable in the news business. He was able to share insights from his career and describe the world graduates are entering as the commencement speaker at Virginia State University.
Martin spoke at VSU's winter ceremony on Saturday. It was held at 10 a.m. at the school's Multipurpose Center.
Martin is not done on the winter commencement tour. This Saturday, he will speak to a graduating class of almost 400 students at Morgan State University.
Currently, Martin serves as the managing editor and host at News One Now. It is a morning news program on TV One and the first show of its kind to tackle issues from an African-American perspective.
Through his nationally syndicated radio program, "The Roland Martin Show," Martin reaches an audience in 20 different markets throughout the country. His written commentary is also syndicated throughout the U.S. by Creators Syndicate and the Daily Beast.
Prior to joining TV One, Martin gained acclaimed during a six-year run at CNN. He has written three books and is a two-time winner of the NAACP Image Award.
