Music Icon MC Hammer Named Speaker at Tracy’s Delta Charter High School

May 05 2016
Carson Ingle

Despite recording his signature hits over 25 years ago, MC Hammer remains a huge part of pop culture.  There is no doubt that the students at Tracy's Delta Charter High School will be whipped into a frenzy when he shows up in two weeks.

MC Hammer will speak at the school's graduation on May 21st.  The ceremony will be held at noon at the Teranishi Event Center on campus.

The school was able to get MC Hammer to speak because his son is a member of the graduating class.  The graduation is free to attend, but it does require a ticket.

MC Hammer broke onto the world music stage with his second studio album, "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em".  That album reached number one on the U.S. music charts and produced three top ten hits.

MC Hammer's third album, "Too Legit 2 Quit", also broke the top five on the Billboard 200 and produced two more top ten singles.  There was no question that his chart success led to his distinction as first "mainstream" rapper in American culture.

Over the course of his career, MC Hammer has sold over 50 million records worldwide.  He has won three Grammys and eight American Music Awards.
