Michigan Names Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Commencement Speaker

As one of the most distinguished city mayors in recent memory, Michael Bloomberg is one of the most in-demand speaker in the U.S. The Class of 2016 graduates at the University of Michigan lucked out when it was announced they would be learning some tips from the man that is sought after to speak in front of the world's most powerful companies.
Bloomberg was named commencement speaker for the spring this week. He will address the graduates on April 30th at 10 a.m. at Michigan stadium.
Students receiving their bachelor's degree can receive up to eight tickets for the ceremony while graduate degree recipients can have four tickets. In addition to speaking, Bloomberg has been recommended to receive and honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
Bloomberg was New York City mayor for three terms from 2002-2013. He successful led the city through the aftermath of the September 11th attacks and turned around the budget to produce a multi-billion dollar surplus.
The crime rate in New York City was also reduced by 32 percent during Bloomberg's time in office. He was at the early forefront of the climate debate as well, creating new park space in the city and reducing their carbon footprint.
Prior to becoming mayor, Bloomberg founded the software company Bloomberg L.P. and dabbled in various other businesses. Today, he continues his passionate fight against climate change as the Secretary General's Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change in the United Nations and as President of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group.
