Carson Ingle

This Friday, mental health advocate Jessie Close will be sharing her message with the people of Port Angeles, Washington.  She is speaking at the Peninsula Behavioral Health Annual Dinner.

The dinner is being held from 5-6 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel.  Tickets to attend are $95 and include a filet mignon dinner.

Close will discuss how she has overcome her struggle with bipolar disorder.  Peninsula Behavioral Health helps low-income local residents through an array of programs.

Close struggled through mental illness for 25 years before being diagnosed at age 45.  She struggled with alcoholism as a form of self-medicating, but joined Alcoholics Anonymous in 2001 and has been sober ever since.

In Close's new book, "Resilience: Two Sisters and a Story of Mental Illness", she chronicles her journey with mental illness.  The sister mentioned in the title is famous Hollywood actress Glenn Close.

Now, the sisters have teamed up to raise awareness for people dealing with many forms of mental illness.  They are making up for lost time to tear down some of the stigmas associated with being bipolar and having other disorders.
