Macalester College Names Walking Dead Star Danai Gurira Commencement Speaker

Danai Gurira is heavily in the spotlight right now with her role as Michionne on "The Walking Dead".  She gets to share her publicity now with her alma mater.  

Gurira will be the commencement speaker at Macalester College on May 14th.  She graduated from the school in 2001. 

The ceremony will be held at the St. Paul, Minnesota campus' Great Lawn.  With a star from one of the biggest shows running headed to campus, there is sure to be a great buzz that weekend.

Gurira has starred on The Walking Dead since the show's third season in 2012.  This year she was nominated for a NAACP Image Award for Oustanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

In addition to her work on TV, Gurira is currently performing in two acclaimed plays in New York.  She has also written several plays. 

Gurira uses her platform for the greater good as well.  She fights for many causes including education in Zimbabwe through her organization Almasi.
