Swimmer Diana Nyad has lived a life that has inspired many. Manhattan Beach locals have the opportunity tonight to hear more about Nyad's feats when she makes an appearance at Pages bookstore located at 904 Manhattan Avenue.
She will be discussing her memoir, Find a Way, starting at 7 p.m. To attend, people must RSVP and purchase a copy of the book at Pages or via their website.
Nyad published the memoir this past October and it drew rave reviews, landing on the Amazon Best Book of October 2015 list. The book is just another mark in her long list of accomplishments.
In 2013, Nyad achieved a lifelong dream when at age 64 she completed the 110-mile swim from Cuba to Key West on her fifth attempt. Earlier in her swimming career, she gained notoriety for swimming around Manhattan and from The Bahamas to Juno Beach, Florida.
Nyad has long been a writer and in addition to her four books, she has penned pieces for The New York Times, NPR's "All Things Considered", Newsweek, and a host of other publications. She has been a media contributor both to NPR and CBS News.
After her tremendous Cuba to Florida swim, Nyad was featured on season 18 of Dancing with the Stars and named one of National Geographic's Adventurers of the Year. She is a member of the United States National Women's Sports Hall of Fame, the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame, and the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame.
