Johns Hopkins University Selects Director Spike Lee as Commencement Speaker

Director Spike Lee still causes a stir wherever he goes. His celebrity will certainly not be lost on the graduating students at John Hopkins University when he comes to speak at commencement.
Lee will address the group of nearly 7,000 graduates on May 18th at 4 p.m. Commencement is held at Royal Farms Arena in downtown Baltimore, Maryland.
The ceremony is not open to the public. Family and guests of the graduates do not need a ticket to attend.
Lee's films often delve into areas of race relations, urban crime, political strife, and other important issues. Two of his pictures have been nominated for Academy Awards.
Last year, Lee received the Academy Honorary Award for his whole body of filmmaking. His company, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, has produced over 35 movies since the mid-1980's.
In addition to directing, Lee has acted in several of his films. He also became well known for being an avid sports fan of the New York Knicks and starring in early television commercials for Air Jordan sneakers.
