As one of the Internet's pioneer, Vinton Cerf has a great story to tell.  He will share that and more next month with graduates at the University of Pittsburgh.

Cerf has been named the school's 2016 commencement speaker.  Commencement is May 1st at 2 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center.

Tickets are not needed to attend the graduation.  Those who are not able to be there in person can view Cerf's speech online.

Cerf helped lay some of the building blocks for what would ultimately become the Internet.  He worked on the development of transmission control, protocols and architecture.

As vice president of MCI Digital Information Services, Cerf engineered MCI Mail, the first commercial email service.  He was the founding president of the Internet Society which helped promote further Internet development in the 1990's.

Cerf is currently a vice president and chief Internet evangelist for Google.  In 2005, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work in the technology community.
