When talking about inspiring U.S. veterans, one cannot find a better story than Bob Wieland's. Last Friday, he shared his message as the speaker at the Honoring Our Heroes tennis expo.
The expo took place at the Beaumont Tennis Center in Texas. There was a cocktail reception, auction and exhibition match by the Lamar University tennis team at the event.
Wieland was able to share how being a double amputee did not slow him down in life. Attendance at the event cost $30 per person and $50 for couples.
Wieland joined the U.S. Army as a combat medic and served in the Vietnam War. He tragically lost both of his legs after stepping on a mortar mine.
Many would let the way they did things, but Wieland was determined to be a positive influence. He notably walked across America on his hands to raise money for Vietnam War veterans.
Wieland is also the only double amputee to complete the Kona, Hawaii Ironman without the aid of a wheelchair. He has successfully completed the New York City Marathon and Los Angeles Marathon as well.
