The filmmaker who has best captured the imagination of a generation is coming to Harvard University. Director Steven Spielberg was named speaker for the school's 365th commencement.
Spielberg will speak on May 26th during the Afternoon Exercises of Commencement at Harvard Yard's Tecentenary Theatre. He has spoken at Harvard before, but this will be his first time at commencement.
Tickets are required for the graduation ceremony. Graduating seniors receive four tickets and advanced degree candidates get two tickets.
Spielberg has won two Academy Awards in the Best Director category for "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan". He has also directed modern-day blockbusters like "E.T.", "Jaws", and "Jurassic Park".
With Spielberg-directed films grossing over $9 billion worldwide, no director has ever had more financial success at the box office. Overall, he has been nominated for seven Academy Awards in the Best Director category, most recently for 2013's "Lincoln".
In 2015, Spielberg received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He is a member of the Science Fiction Hall of Fame and a co-founder of DreamWorks Studios.
