The HistoryMakers founder Julieanna Richardson has the unique distinction of being able to go back and speak at her alma mater. On May 22nd, she will be the commencement speaker at Brandeis University.
Commencement will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center. In addition to speaking, Richardson will be presented with an honorary degree.
Richardson graduated from Brandeis in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts and American Studies. It would prepare her well for her future endeavors.
In 1999, Richardson founded The HistoryMakers. It is a national, non-profit organization that is headquartered in Chicago and preserves a vast collection of African American oral histories.
After graduating from Brandeis, Richardson got a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School. She started her professional life out as a corporate lawyer with Jenner & Block before working her way up in the Chicago community.
Richardson served as Cable Administrator for the City of Chicago's Office of Cable Communications in the 1980's. Prior to starting The HistoryMakers, she would go on to found other companies like Shop Chicago and SCTN Teleproductions.
