Peter Thiel has been at the center in one way or another of the beginnings of many well-known technology start-ups. Perhaps he will share some tips of the trade when he speaks to Hamilton College graduates in May.
Thiel was named commencement speaker by the school for their May 22nd graduation ceremony. It will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on campus.
In addition to speaking, Thiel will also be awarded an honorary degree by Hamilton College. Around 500 students will be conferred bachelor's degrees at the commencement.
Thiel co-founded the online payment system PayPal in 1998. He became the company's CEO and after the company went public in 2002, his group sold it to eBay for $1.5 billion.
In 2004, Thiel struck web gold again by becoming the first outside investor in Facebook. He is still on the company's Board of Directors today.
Through several venture firms, Thiel has been able to invest in other start-ups in the tech sector. He is also the president of Clarium Capital, a global macro hedge fund.
