Grammy Winning Opera Singer Jessye Norman Speaks at Oberlin College Commencement

Jessye Norman's great gift has allowed her to see the world. Those life experiences will come in handy for Norman as she addressed the Class of 2016 at Oberlin College.
She is the school's spring commencement speaker on May 23rd. The ceremony will be held at Tappan Square on campus beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Norman will receive an honorary Doctor of Music at the graduation. The event will be streamed online and at Oberlin's Warner Concert Hall.
Norman has made a concerted effort to give back to education. Her Jessye Norman School for the Arts is in its 13th year and it gives middle school students a tuition-free arts program.
In her illustrious career, Norman has totaled five Grammy Awards. She was also given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
Norman is a member of the American Classical Music Hall of Fame and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. She was the youngest-ever recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 1997.
