The Middlebury Women's Leadership Symposium brought in one of the greatest female leaders in the recent history of the media business. Former Time Managing Editor Nancy Gibbs served as keynote speaker.
Gibbs was interviewed by Middlebury Women's Leadership group president Erin Van Geisel. She talked about never having managerial aspirations when she started in the business.
Gibbs also shared leadership advice. She had some commentary on the current state of the media and the relationship between the press and President Donald Trump.
Gibbs originally started with Time as a part-time fact checker in 1985 and became a writer three years later. She has written over a 100 cover articles for the magazine.
In 2002, Gibbs won a National Magazine Award for her story on the September 11th attacks. During her time as a prominent writer, she frequently served as a guest on national television and radio shows.
Gibbs served as a Ferris Professor of Writing at Princeton University from 1993-2006. She was named Time's first female managing editor in 2013 and served in that role until last year.
