Jan 11 2016

A man who worked for the first African-American President in U.S. history seems uniquely qualified to speak at an event honoring the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The former advisor to President Barack Obama, Van Jones, has been named Wayne State University's keynote speaker for their Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Luncheon January 15th.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Max M. Fisher Music Center. Ticket prices range from $10 to hear Jones presentation only to $65 to have lunch and hear the speech.
Ten tickets can be purchased for the reduced rate of $500. Proceeds from the luncheon benefit Adopt-A-Classroom.
In 2009, Jones served as Special Advisor on Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Since then, he has kept busy as a best-selling author and CNN correspondent.
Last year, Jones also founded his latest non-profit venture, #YesWeCode, to encourage the development of computer coders among economically underprivileged youth. He is a senior policy advisor at Green For All, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and a visiting fellow for two different departments at Princeton University.
Jones reached #12 on the New York Times Best Seller list for The Green Collar Economy in 2008. He published Rebuild the Dream in 2008 as well.
