Former Navy SEAL Kristin Beck Speaks at Transgender Awareness Week Event
Nov 24 2016

Kristin Beck has one of the most unique stories of anyone in the transgender community. She shared some thoughts about her journey as the speaker at the special event in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia last weekend.
Beck took part in an engagement put on at the Hampton Roads Convention Center for Trangender Day of Remembrance. The special occasion was hosted by Access AIDS Care and the LGBT Center of Hampton Roads.
Beck discussed how she got involved as an activist for transgender equality. She talked about what is most important when taking a stand for LGBT rights.
There are not many who have the distinguished military background Beck can boast. Before her transition, she spent 20 years as a U.S. Navy SEAL.
Beck was involved in 13 deployments and seven combat deployments. She was most notably a member of the elite SEAL Team Six and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Two years after retiring from the Navy, Beck came out publically by posting a photo of herself as a woman on her LinkedIn profile. She also published the book, "Warrior Princess: A U.S. Navy SEAL's Journey to Coming Out Transgender."
