The IP EXPO Manchester will hear from a true pioneer in the secret service world next month.  The first female Director General of M15, Stella Rimington, keynotes the event that runs May 18-19.

Rimington will speak on the first day of the event from 10-10:45 a.m.  Her presentation is titled "Open Secret" and she will share important parts of her life and career with the audience.

IP EXPO Manchester involves six different events that touch on an array of enterprise technology issues.  The event is free and open to attend.

Rimington joined the British Security Service as a full-time staffer in 1969.  She worked in nearly every field of the Service and became director of the counter-subversion, counter-espionage, and counter-terrorism branches.

In 1992, she made history when being hired as Director General of the M15.  Her lengthy career in the Service was the inspiration for the character "M" in the James Bond film franchise.

Upon her 1996 retirement from M15, Rimington was named Dame Commander of Bath.  Since leaving the Service, she has struck up a career as a spy fiction writer.
