Former Homeland Security Head Jeh Johnson Keynotes Legalweek

As the most recent Director of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson has a unique perspective on the threats faced by the United States from around the world. He recently focused his attention on the effects of cybersecurity as the keynote speaker at Legalweek.
The theme of Johnson's presentation was "Addressing Existential Threats: Surviving Turbulent Times and Finding a Way Forward." He identified cyber threats as the most dangerous threats to the country in his talk that was held on January 31st at the New York Hilton Hotel.
Johnson went on to talk about government and organizations manage threats. He singled out the legal profession as one industry that does a fairly good job at cybersecurity.
From 2013-17, Johnson led the U.S.'s third-largest department of government as Director of Homeland Security. He had previously been appointed by President Barack Obama as General Counsel of hte Department of Defense.
In that position, Johnson wrote a 250-page report that helped lead to the repeal of the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law. He also served the Clinton Administration as General Counsel of the Department of the Air Force.
Johnson began his career in the public sector as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York from 1989-91. In private life, he has worked with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison as a corporate lawyer.
