Former Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint Keynotes Empower Texans Conservative Leaders Gala

Former Heritage Foundation president Jim DeMint has long played an important role in conservative politics. That made him an ideal choice to serve as keynote speaker at the Empower Texans Conservative Leaders Gala. 

The fourth-annual event was held on December 2nd in Irving. Over 500 conservative activists and leaders from Texas poured in to be recognized for their efforts. 

DeMint talked about a broken system in Washington D.C. During his presentation, he advocated limiting the Federal Government's spending and power. 

DeMint most recently served as president of The Heritage Foundation from 2013-17. He was previously a United States Senator representing South Carolina from 2005-13. 

DeMint began his political career as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999-2005. He has a background in advertising, beginning work for his father's market research firm in 1981. 

DeMint holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from Clemson University. He is currently a senior advisor to CItizens for Self-Governance.
