One of the top figures in the fashion industry is headed to Cleveland this weekend to take part in their fashion weekend. Fern Mallis is the keynote speaker for the event that runs all week.
Mallis will speak on Saturday at the week's culminating event held at The Arcade at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland. In addition to her speech, there will be a black-tie reception and designer runway show.
Mallis' presentation is the last in a line of speeches known as the Fashion Week Cleveland Speaker Series. She plans to address topics related to her 40-plus years in the industry.
Many refer to Mallis as the Godmother of Fashion. She is largely credited for originating New York City Fashion Week in 1993.
Mallis currently operates her own fashion and design consulting firm. Previously, she was senior vice president of IMG Fashion and executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Recently, Mallis has compiled a series of popular in-depth interviews in a book titled, "Fashion Lives: Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis". Outside of the fashion world, she has helped raise millions of dollars for AIDS research, breast cancer research and New York City's homeless.
