Earthquake Expert Lucy Jones Keynotes WISPPA Summer Cocktail Party

Leading seismologist Lucy Jones has made Pasadena, California her home.  On June 23rd, she was the keynote speaker at an important leadership event for women in her community. 

Jones spoke at the Women Involved in South Pasadena Political Action annual summer cocktail party.  WISPPA is an organization that pushes for involvement and transparency in the local government. 

They actively discuss issues and come up with initiatives to improve the community.  This is just one of the monthly meetings they host throughout the year.

Jones recently retired after 33 years as a seismologist with the U.S. Geological Society.  For her expertise and public presence during any activity, she has been called "The Earthquake Lady". 

In addition to working with the USGC, Jones has also been a Visiting Research Associate at the Seismological Laboratory of CalTech since 1983.  Her research has been published in over 100 papers. 

While she is leaving her post at the USGC, Jones hopes to be active creating solutions for other problems like climate change.  She holds a bachelor's degree from Brown University and a Ph.D., from MIT.
