Carson Ingle
One of the most notable philanthropists and a man with significant ties to Duke University will give the spring commencement address at the school. David Rubenstein is scheduled to appear when the Class of 2017 is recognized on May 14th at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Rubenstein is a Duke alumnus and is the current chair of their Board of Directors. His tenure as board chair wraps up just under a month after his presentation to the graduates.
The commencement ceremony is open to the public. Rubenstein plans to offer some thoughts on life to the students and those who are assembled at the event.
Rubenstein serves as co-founder and co-CEO of the private equity firm, The Carlyle Group. Since its founding in 1987, Carlyle has expanded to manage $175 billion from 36 worldwide offices.
Before jumping into the world of finance, Rubenstein practiced law and also worked in the White House during Jimmy Carter's administration. While he is known for his success with the firm, he is also well-regarded for what he has done with his fortunes.
As a noted philanthropist, Rubenstein has made generous donations to restore several historical landmarks in his hometown of Washington D.C. He was also among the first 40 people to pledge half of their wealth to different causes through The Giving Pledge.
