Nov 04 2016
Carson Ingle
The Tribute to Women Working Luncheon first started in 1995, but they made some history this year. For the first time, they brought back a speaker from the previous year.
Those in attendance were again impacted by the words of Dr. Bertice Berry. The event attracted a sell-out crowd of over 700 attendees at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville.
Berry shared a full range of personal stories. Through them, she was able to talk about concepts important to her like the importance of focus.
Berry has been overcoming obstacles for some time. A high school teacher told her she was not college material, but she would go on to graduate magna cum laude from Jacksonville University.
Berry then earned her Ph.D. in sociology from Kent State University when she was 26. She embarked on a career as a sociology and statistics teacher at KSU.
After leaving the school, Berry embarked on a second career as an entertainer and motivational speaker. She has been named national Comedian of the Year, Campus Lecturer of the Year and Campus Entertainer of the Year.
