One of the top leaders in cable television was on hand this Monday to deliver the commencement address at the University of Oregon. Comedy Central president Kent Alterman addressed the Class of 2016 at 9:30 a.m.
The main graduation ceremony was held at Matthew Knight Arena. With Oregon being Alterman's alma mater, his speech to the class carried special significance.
At commencement, the school handed out 5,067 degrees. Alterman was able to impart some insights from his successful business career that the graduates can take with them into the professional world.
Alterman has had multiple stints at Comedy Central, but became president just last month. He returned to the network in 2010 as the head of original programming and production.
Most recently, Alterman was a key voice in selecting comedian Trevor Noah as the new host of "The Daily Show". Rolling Stone has called him "The man who saved Comedy Central".
From 1996-2000, Alterman was the head of east coast development and helped launch the careers of comedic stars like Stephen Colbert, Amy Poehler and Amy Schumer. In between his Comedy Central stints, he directed and produced films for New Line Cinema.
