CNN anchor John King has a great deal of credibility built up in the new industry. That reputation led to his selection as commencement speaker for American University's School of Public Affairs.
King addressed the Class of 2016 on Sunday at Bender Arena. He discussed his philosophy on work and life.
There was also no way around King discussing the current presidential election cycle in his speech. He used it to teach a lesson to the graduates that "anything is possible".
King is CNN's chief national correspondent and the anchor of the Sunday morning program "Inside Politics". He originally joined the network in 1997 and was senior White House correspondent until 2005.
Prior to CNN, King was with the Associated Press in Rhode Island, Boston and Washington D.C. for 12 years. He became the chief political correspondent at the AP, covering the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections.
Throughout his career, King has reported from all 50 states and over 70 countries. He holds honorary degrees from the University of Rhode Island and Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
